BRANDING & WEB 

BRAND OVERVIEW

Just Right Reader has produced hundreds of decodable books to help make reading accessible and fun for students.  All of their books follow a research-based phonics program with a wide range of books within each phonics skill set.

ROLE

This project was a team effort in collaboration with teachers, researchers , and the creative team. My role as the designer included visual design direction, user testing, UX research, analysis, strategy, and ideation.

STRATEGY

Redesign the Just Right Reader website so that the interface and information architecture more effectively cater to teachers and parents. Product information hierarchy will be reorganized according to student reading level. In addition, visual branding will be applied and maintained across all web and marketing touchpoints.

USER RESEARCH

ANALYZING THE PREVIOUS WEBSITE

  • Homepage prompts users to select a demographic before they can continue. This feature is not needed as the user flow is not different depending on demographic.
  • Not visually branded.
  • Not mobile responsive.

USER ANALYSIS

  • The Just Right Reader website was found to be educators’ second most preferred method of accessing product information next to directly contacting an associate. This is a clear indication that the current website does not offer enough information regarding educational content and pricing for users to find information on their own.
  • More than half of site visitors access the website on a mobile device and are in need of a mobile responsive interface.

REFINING THE DESIGN

To finalize the new site’s interface, I implemented a library of digital assets to further immerse users into a cohesive brand experience throughout the flow of the site. These assets enforce and strengthen brand awareness, while also encouraging an intuitive and user-friendly product browsing experience.

FINAL OUTCOME

MAIN IMPROVEMENTS

  • Visually branded and simplified UI enforces an intuitive and user-friendly experience for parents, teachers, and students.
  • Cohesive product nav and built out product pages provide more descriptive information on which book titles are included in which bundles as well as school district reading data.
  • Interactive e-library allows parents and students to explore several decodable titles.
  • Mobile responsive.

MARKETING MATERIALS

A comprehensive range of digital and printed marketing materials were meticulously crafted to create an engaging brand experience. The deliverables encompassed a vibrant catalog showcasing the company’s diverse collection of decodable books, along with eye-catching envelopes, stationary, business cards, and mailers. To further advocate for design consistency, visual assets from the print collateral were also seamlessly integrated onto the brand website’s interface. This offers an immersive journey for users, bridging the gap between offline and online interactions.

BOOK DESIGN

Just Right Reader decodables are skillfully crafted so that kids from diverse backgrounds can see themselves reflected in the first stories they read. Built for family engagement, Just Right Decodables also give families tools to be partners in their child’s literacy. Each book includes phonics tips and a video phonics lesson to help guide parents and readers. The design decisions made within typography, color, and layout, aim to create a reading experience for kids in which they can experience reading success within a relevant, meaningful context.
